Sporty driving on long journeys and in the city: the new Audi A6 Avant for travel enthusiasts

Published 5 March 2025

The sophisticated powertrain

With a combination of efficiency, comfort, and dynamics, the new A6 Avant will offer a sophisticated concept for long journeys and everyday use, starting from May 2025. This premium estate combines its dynamic design with high suitability for everyday use and improved aerodynamics. Thanks to the mild hybrid technology MHEV plus, drivers benefit from increased efficiency, more electric driving and optimized performance – for both gasoline and diesel engines. To increase comfort on long journeys, the air suspension ensures a balanced driving experience. At the same time, the all-wheel steering enables agile handling, which is particularly noticeable in tight bends and when maneuvering. The MHEV plus mild hybrid technology developed by Audi combines the combustion engine with partial electrification. Both versions – the 2.0 TDI four-cylinder with 150 kW (204 hp) and the 3.0 TFSI six-cylinder with 270 kW (367 hp) – feature a 48-volt battery, the belt alternator starter (BAS) and the new powertrain generator (PTG) with integrated power electronics. The latter enables fully electric parking and maneuvering. Furthermore, when overtaking, the additional electric power of 18 kW (24 hp) ensures a swift, lively maneuver to quickly leave the competition behind. The top speed is between 238 and 250 km/h, depending on the model.

The improved chassis

The new Audi A6 Avant offers optional all-wheel steering and adaptive air suspension, which individually regulates the vehicle height and shock absorption. The optional quattro sport differential for the V6 further increases agility. The standard progressive steering ensures a more direct response and improves feedback from the road. Compared to its predecessor, the steering has been made stiffer, with an optimized torsion bar and stiffened control arm bushings. The dynamic function of the all-wheel steering ensures a smaller turning circle of up to 1 m at low speeds, as the rear wheels are turned up to five degrees in the opposite direction to the front wheels. At medium and high speeds, on the other hand, the car is stable and precise when the tires are turned in the same direction. The new Audi A6 Avant impresses with its dynamic and functional design. The long hood and short front overhang give it a striking appearance and emphasize the aerodynamic lines. The streamlined layout – with a drag coefficient of just 0.25 (the best value of an Audi Avant with a combustion engine) – ensures high efficiency and demonstrates the balanced interplay of form and function. The coupé-like window shape and the gently sloping roofline with sporty roof spoiler not only improve the aerodynamics, but also give the vehicle a powerful silhouette. With a length of 4.94 m, there is also enough space for 5 passengers and plenty of luggage. The notable trunk capacity is 503 l and can be extended to up to 1,534 l by flexibly folding down the rear seats. The interior of the Audi A6 Avant offers a pleasant atmosphere with customizable lighting accents and four-zone automatic air conditioning. Luxurious Valcona leather seats with memory and massage function complement the high-quality material design. The panoramic glass roof provides a choice of a light-flooded or insulated space, while the Bang & Olufsen premium sound system offers an outstanding sound experience. The optional air quality package improves air circulation in the interior.

Technology enthusiasts get their money's worth

The Audi A6 Avant is equipped with state-of-the-art technologies and various assistance systems that greatly enhance the driving experience. The Audi MMI panoramic display is designed for intuitive operation and personalization. It enables the storage of individual user profiles with customizable functions. These include settings such as seat position, climate control or preferred media, so that all preferences can be called up quickly. The front passenger display provides a wide range of infotainment options without distracting the driver. The exterior also features enhanced technology. The digital OLED rear lights, which can warn other road users with graphic symbols in certain hazardous situations, are used for increased safety. The driver can choose from seven daytime running light signatures for the front and rear lights, which underlines the individuality of the vehicle. Audi has also thought about the optional Trailer Assist in this family-friendly and practical vehicle, which makes maneuvering with trailers easier by automatically steering the trailer in the direction specified by the driver using the touch function on the display when reversing. Special attention was also paid to the aero and interior acoustics: better insulated doors and windows, foam insulation on the wheels and refinements to the engine and transmission ensure a quieter ride and a reduced background noise.

Predecessor models and delivery in Switzerland

The Audi A6 Avant was launched in 1994 as the successor to the Audi 100 and has since evolved over six generations. Each model series has brought technical advances: From the first C4 model (1994-1997) to the current model, design, efficiency, and technology have been constantly optimized. The C8 (2018-2024) in particular set new standards with its digital cockpit and mild hybrid technology. The latest generation now offers improved aerodynamics, advanced hybrid technology and modern assistance systems. Audi CEO Gernot Döllner describes the “next chapter in our Avant story” as follows: “The new Audi A6 combines elegant and dynamic design with outstanding aerodynamics. Efficient yet powerful drive systems and top chassis technologies combine sportiness with a high level of comfort, making traveling in the A6 a first-class experience.” With the new model, the company intends to continue the major product offensive launched in 2024, which should also contribute to a rejuvenation of the product portfolio. In Switzerland, the A6 Avant is only available as a quattro. The 2.0 TDI quattro 150 kW with MHEV plus technology starts from CHF 78'450, the 3.0 TFSI quattro 270 kW from CHF 93'550. Orders can be placed from March and the first deliveries will take place at the end of May 2025. 11 paint finishes are available as standard. Further personal wishes can be realized via the Audi exclusive individualization program.
