Powerful engines for every demand
Audi presents the new A6 plug-in hybrids in both the Sedan and Avant models, with quattro drive and a choice of two powerful power levels. The 50 TFSI e quattro delivers 220 kW (calculated: 299 PS) and the 55 TFSI e quattro 270 kW (calculated: 367 PS). Thanks to a more powerful high-voltage battery, the new models achieve an electric range of up to 106 kilometers, which represents a benchmark in this vehicle class. Smart recuperation and intelligent hybrid management ensure maximum efficiency and dynamic handling. Both models combine a 2.0 TFSI engine with 185 kW (252 PS) and an electric motor with an output of up to 105 kW. In the more powerful version with 270 kW system output and 500 Nm torque, the Avant and Sedan accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.3 s. The version with 220 kW and 450 Nm reaches the 100 km/h mark in 6.0 s. The top speed in each variant is limited to 250 km/h. The plug-in hybrid technology is characterized by the newly developed high-voltage battery. With a capacity of 25.9 kWh (20.7 kWh net), it delivers around 45% more energy than the previous generation. This enables an all-electric range of over 100 km, which is ideal for customers seeking emission-free daily driving. Progress is also evident when it comes to charging: with a maximum AC charging power of 11 kW, the battery can be fully charged in just 2.5 hours.

Cutting-edge technology makes the difference
The focus of the new plug-in hybrid technology is set on regenerative braking performance: the intensity can be fine-tuned in three stages using steering wheel paddles in purely electric driving mode. Depending on the selected setting, the vehicle varies the deceleration, for example when coasting or cornering, and thus ensures energy recovery adapted to the driving situation. The electrical energy is delivered from the high-voltage battery with new cell architecture integrated in the rear section. The mentioned approximately 45% more energy compared to the previous generation is supplied by the prismatic cells with increased energy density and the innovative cell-to-pack design (first used in the PHEVs of the A5 series). This ensures both long range and improved crash protection despite the compact design. In addition, cell chemistry has been further developed to ensure stable power output even at low temperatures and with a low state of charge. In daily use, the hybrid management system automatically adapts to the route, traffic flow and driving behavior, whether with or without active navigation. There are two main operating modes to choose from: The electric driving mode (“EV”) prioritizes silent and locally emission-free gliding, at speeds of up to 140 km/h if required. In combined mode (“Hybrid”), the state of charge is maintained or discharged in a targeted manner depending on the situation to provide electrical energy available when it can be used most effectively, which is the case in the city, for example. A digital slider also allows the desired state of charge to be set manually. If a higher target value is set, the vehicle recharges the battery via the combustion engine – but only above 65 km/h to maximize efficiency. This allows the desired distance in electric mode to be precisely controlled, even if there are no charging options at the destination. Energy is not only recovered when the foot is taking off the accelerator: the electric motor also assists as a generator during deceleration phases and takes over up to 90 % of all braking processes. The hydraulic systems, which are coordinated by a modern, pressure-free braking system that combines optimum recuperation with seamless driving comfort, only intervene to provide support during heavy braking maneuvers.

The appealing equipment and sporty design
The electrified dual-clutch transmission in combination with quattro ultra drive and all-wheel steering as standard ensures that the new Audi A6 e-hybrid models offer a driving experience that is as sporty as it is superior. The latter not only increases maneuverability in city traffic – by steering the rear wheels in the opposite direction to the front wheels at low speeds – but also ensures particularly stable and precise handling at higher speeds by turning in the same direction. This agile setup masters every route, from narrow lanes to the highway. The exterior of the new models impresses with its clear lines and self-confident presence. The Sedan looks elegant and prestigious with its flowing window line, while the Avant signals dynamism with its emphatically sporty rear section, roof edge spoiler and striking aero trims. Striking light graphics and the continuous light strip at the rear emphasize the width of both body variants. In the more powerful variants with 270 kW system output, both vehicles feature a particularly dynamic appearance: The standard exterior S line equipment with black single-frame grille, striking air intakes in matt anthracite chrome, and a sporty diffuser underline the powerful character. This is complemented by a sports-tuned suspension with 20 mm lowering, 19-inch alloy wheels and red-painted brake callipers. The interior, including sports seats with pronounced lateral support and a grippy sports leather steering wheel, underlines the dynamic claim. Comfort is not neglected either: a standard three-zone automatic air conditioning system enables individual temperature settings for the driver, front and rear passengers. In addition, noise insulation has been noticeably improved (by up to 30%) compared to the previous model. Reinforced window seals, an optimized door seal and a special joint seal on the tailgate of the Sedan significantly reduce wind and driving noise. As an option, extended acoustic glazing (now also available for the rear doors) contributes to an even quieter atmosphere in the interior. In addition, new engine and transmission mounts bushings as well as special noise absorbers for tires 19 inches or larger minimize disruptive vibrations and air oscillations.
