Ready for the 2025 DTM season opener in Oschersleben
The new BMW M2 Racing marks the next step in customer racing and will offer private BMW M Motorsport teams worldwide a powerful entry-level model, starting in 2026. With its intuitive operation, high performance, and genuine driving pleasure, the vehicle is aimed at both ambitious racing drivers and track day enthusiasts. Development began in November 2023, with initial tests taking place at the Aschheim site near Munich. The BMW M2 Racing will celebrate its official premiere at the 2025 DTM season opener in Oschersleben. The intensive testing included three specially prepared test vehicles – drive, driving dynamics and endurance – which together completed over 30,000 test kilometers. A total of 17 test runs were carried out on racetracks and at the factory to optimize performance, drivability, tire wear, and durability in particular. Experienced BMW works drivers such as Jens Klingmann provided significant support during the development phase. The endurance race at the Nürburgring 2025 will serve as the final test. “The BMW M2 Racing creates the same driving pleasure on the racetrack that is deeply rooted in the DNA of all BMW M and BMW M Motorsport vehicles. Our focus was on ensuring that the BMW M2 Racing, with its combination of intuitive and predictable drivability and strong performance, is exactly the right vehicle for all users, from inexperienced track day participants to ambitious racers,” explained Jens Klingmann, BMW M works driver, on the development of the BMW M2 Racing. As the successor to the BMW M235i Racing, BMW M240i Racing and BMW M2 CS Racing, the new M2 Racing sets standards in the entry-level segment. It is ideally suited for national and international series as well as endurance events such as the 24-hour race on the Nürburgring and various one-make cups. The BMW M2 Racing models, which are built at the modern BMW Group plant in Mexico, start at 98,000 Euros net in the basic configuration and are available from selected BMW M Motorsport dealers. Sales start at the end of June 2025.

More motorsport? Almost impossible!
The new BMW M2 Racing impresses with a powerful technical basis and state-of-the-art motorsport equipment. It is powered by a B48-based in-line four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1,998 cc, which delivers 230 kW (313 PS) and 420 Nm of torque. This enables the vehicle to reach a top speed of 270 km/h. Adjustable electronics with various power levels and a special transport mode ensure flexibility on the racetrack. The exhaust system is specially tuned for racing and features a racing catalytic converter. The 7-speed ZF 8HP automatic transmission, combined with specially developed BMW M Motorsport software, ensures fast and precise gear changes. This is supported by a mechanical limited slip differential with separate cooling. In terms of suspension, the M2 Racing relies on motorsport KW shock absorbers with GT3 technology and adjustable anti-roll bars. BMW M compound brake discs, motorsport brake pads and effective brake cooling ensure optimum deceleration. The body is optimized for tough racing conditions: A DMSB-certified roll cage, a CFRP lightweight roof and quick-release locks on the bonnet and boot guarantee safety and efficiency. Additional features such as tow rings, Makrolon side windows with tank filler neck and comprehensive safety equipment underline the uncompromising motorsport character of the vehicle.
