Team spirit: Bugatti presents the powerful Tourbillon with the “Équipe Pur Sang” option

Published 21 March 2025

In 2004, Bugatti put the first production hyper sports car with 1,001 PS on the road with the Veyron. This was followed in 2016 by the Chiron with 1,500 PS and an advanced 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16 engine. 20 years after this development, Bugatti is now presenting a completely new platform and a redesigned powertrain with the Tourbillon. With the “Équipe Pur Sang” option, it also features a motorsport-inspired equipment package for the first time. This exclusive configuration emphasizes the brand's racing DNA and combines modern technology with historical heritage. Since its launch, the Tourbillon has captured the imagination of enthusiasts and attracted worldwide attention at prestigious events such as the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Monterey Car Week and the “Prix du Public” award ceremony at Chantilly Arts & Elegance Richard Mille. The new Tourbillon era was thus impressively heralded.

Team Bugatti

The name “Équipe Pur Sang”, which means “Thoroughbred Team”, is reminiscent of Bugatti's successful motorsport days and thus underlines the close connection to its racing history. Hendrik Malinowski, Managing Director of Bugatti, explains: “With each new era of Bugatti, we seek to honor our heritage while pushing the boundaries of what's possible. The Tourbillon already represents an unprecedented fusion of naturally aspirated power and electrification – a hyper sports car conceived for eternity. With the Équipe Pur Sang option, we elevate its appearance towards the track, enabling customers to celebrate the pure racing soul that has defined Bugatti for over a century.” Bugatti enables the Tourbillon to be individually configured – either in Molsheim or by its partners worldwide. The Équipe Pur Sang option thus gives the car a variety of elements that emphasize and enhance its exceptional driving characteristics and performance features. Customers can also choose from 23 paint finishes, 20 leather options, 10 Alcantara variants and 7 carpet colors to make their vehicle unique. “The configuration experience is unlike any other in the automotive world. Our customers are welcomed to configure their cars as a part of the Bugatti family. With the guidance of our designers and experts, each with a deep understanding not just of the Tourbillon but also of the achievements that have shaped our marque for 115 years, they make decisions that will define their Tourbillon for their ownership and for generations to come”, says Hendrik Malinowski. With this program, the brand has created an equipment package that transforms the Tourbillon into a motorsport-inspired icon. The Tourbillon is considered the ultimate evolution of the Bugatti DNA. With a price starting at 3.8 million euros, it is limited to just 250 units worldwide.

Do you want more horsepower?

The Bugatti Tourbillon combines the 8.3-liter naturally aspirated V16 engine (developed with the help of the brand Cosworth) with 1,000 hp and three electric motors with 800 hp (more precisely with a front electric axle with two electric motors and an electric motor on the rear axle) and an 8-speed Longitudinal DCT. The total output is 1,800 hp, with the instant torque of the electric motors ensuring direct power delivery and particularly strong acceleration. The integrated battery structure enables a purely electric range of over 60 km. By using the T800 carbon composite material for the chassis, the Tourbillon is lighter than its predecessor, despite the hybrid drive. The vehicle weight is comparatively low at under 1,995 kg. An integrated battery structure and a motorsport-inspired rear diffuser with crash box contribute to weight reduction and stability. The Bugatti Tourbillon reaches an electronically limited top speed of 380 km/h. With the speed key, the speed increases to 445 km/h. The Tourbillon also sets new standards in terms of acceleration. It reaches 100 km/h in just 2.0 s and needs less than 5.0 s for 200 km/h. The 300 km/h mark is broken in under 10.0 s, while 400 km/h is reached in less than 25.0 s. The driving experience is characterized by the stimulating engine sound of the naturally aspirated V16 engine. The Bugatti Tourbillon focuses on aerodynamic precision with a specially developed front splitter and a tailor-made rear wing that improves efficiency with small fins. A purpose-built 8-pipe exhaust system and an adapted rear diffuser optimize downforce, while the carbon fiber engine cover inlays provide additional lightness and stability. While designing the Tourbillon the focus has been set on optimizing the drag coefficient and the airflow over the entire vehicle. The engineers have done such a good job that the car can reach its top speed even without the rear wing extended and still remaining stable on the road.

Technically innovative rims

The directional rims with different sizes at the front (20 inch) and rear (21 inch) offer improved cooling performance, optimizing airflow by up to 8%. Each rim is unique due to its precise design and manufacture. The special design for left and right fulfills different requirements. Long, thin spokes enhance the presence of the rims, while the sophisticated design reduces turbulence and directs the airflow to the rear radiator more efficiently. The vehicle impresses with exclusive embroidery that showcases the Bugatti racing logo. The combination of high-quality Alcantara and carbon fiber not only provides a sporty look, but also special performance seats that offer additional lateral support. A true highlight is the analog instrument cluster, which is manufactured with the highest precision according to Swiss watchmaking standards and thus guarantees a unique, luxurious driving experience. Bugatti's aesthetics are deeply rooted in the legacy of its founder, Ettore Bugatti, who came from a family of artists. His father, Carlo Bugatti, was a designer and architect and his designs still shape the brand's creations today.
