Destined for 72 enthusiasts only
De Tomaso is making a powerful statement with the P72! Only 72 individually manufactured units of this exceptional vehicle will be delivered to carefully selected “custodians” to demonstrate a conscious decision for exclusivity and craftsmanship. The vehicle now presented serves as an internal series specification unit and marks the final state of design, technology, and workmanship. Deliveries to customers will start at the end of 2025, marking a new chapter in the brand’s history. The latter was founded in Modena in 1959 by the visionary Argentinian racing driver Alejandro De Tomaso and achieved worldwide recognition with models such as the P70 and the legendary Pantera. After decades of silence, De Tomaso was revived in 2014 by Norman Choi with the aim of redefining the analog driving experience in an increasingly digital world.

“The P72 was our promise to faithfully revive a historic marque,” explained Norman Choi, CEO of De Tomaso Automobili, at the car's launch. “This first production-specification vehicle embodies everything we stand for: a mechanical soul, timeless beauty, and a driving experience that rises above modern convention. It is our echo through time—now made real.” The P72 was first shown as a concept car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2019 and now unveiled in its final form in May 2025 in Affalterbach at the headquarters in Germany. It is a tribute to the year 1965, when Alejandro De Tomaso developed the P70 together with Carroll Shelby. It embodies not only the aesthetics and emotion of the 1960s, but also a return to what driving once meant: passion, craftsmanship, and a genuine connection to the machine.

Built from scratch
The P72 boasts a hand-built 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine developed exclusively for the De Tomaso P platform. With 700 PS and 820 Nm of torque, the focus isn’t on top speed but on delivering an immediate, emotional driving experience. Short gear ratios ensure explosive acceleration in every gear. The sound, response, and mechanical presence make the driver feel fully connected with the machine. That’s why there are no driving modes—because here, authenticity is what truly matters. The cockpit, which is also analog, features classic round instruments and mechanical switches. The metal gearshift, which is directly connected to the 6-speed gearbox, takes center stage. All materials are finished to a high standard: The hand-stitched leather meets the milled aluminum parts, which are available in a bead-blasted, hand-brushed or hand-polished finish. Although there is a smartphone holder, it is designed without a digital connection to the vehicle – there is deliberately no infotainment to distract the driver! A classically inspired push-rod suspension with 3-way manually adjustable damping ensures the perfect interplay of performance and control. Complemented by an aerodynamically optimized silhouette, the result is a driving experience that is characterized by precision, directness, and character, in the spirit of the great GT icons of past decades.

Beneath the sculptural bodywork lies the completely redesigned carbon fiber chassis, which does not draw on existing platforms but, like the engine, was designed from scratch for the P72. The monocoque frame made from a single piece of carbon fiber, manufactured using the elaborate 4x4 twill weave, offers maximum rigidity with minimum weight. Thanks to perfectly balanced weight distribution and an extremely low center of gravity, every steering, acceleration, and braking becomes an intuitive and harmonious experience, completely in the flow. The full carbon body is optionally available in traditional heritage paint finishes or as a visible carbon version. This artfully completes the P72 concept of being timeless, uncompromising, vibrant.
