Porsche 911 GT2 RS Flachbau: A unique one-off created by Sonderwunsch and Manthey
Porsche has unveiled an extraordinary one-off designed to attract the attention of sports car and motorsport enthusiasts: the Porsche 911 GT2 RS Flachbau RS. The car was created as part of the exclusive Sonderwunsch programme, in collaboration with Porsche specialist Manthey. The project is based on an almost-new 911 GT2 RS Type 991.2 with the Weissach Package, dating from 2018. The owner's request was particularly ambitious: combine even greater performance with a distinctive Flachbau silhouette, while incorporating a rear wing inspired by the Porsche 911 GT3 R rennsport Type 992. The result is a genuine road-legal collector's car. For almost three years, specialists from Sonderwunsch, Style Porsche, Weissach, Porsche Motorsport and Manthey worked on the project. The objective was to reinterpret the legendary design of the Porsche 935/78 “Moby Dick” without compromising safety, technology or road legality. The result is a modern Porsche 911 Flachbau, distinguished by an exceptionally low front end and a design that sets it clearly apart from the conventional 911 GT2 RS.

Porsche Flachbau RS: A design inspired by the legendary 935 Moby Dick
The most spectacular feature of the Porsche 911 GT2 RS Flachbau is undoubtedly its bodywork. The design draws directly on the distinctive characteristics of the legendary Porsche 935/78, better known by its nickname “Moby Dick”. The front wings have been completely redesigned and feature a lower profile. Integrated air outlets allow air to escape from the wheel arches, reducing the pressure inside them. The front bumper has also been completely redesigned, while black Manthey elements further emphasise the car's aerodynamic character. The new lighting signature is equally distinctive. Instead of the traditional round headlights of the 911 GT2 RS, Porsche has developed an LED system consisting of three vertically arranged elements for high beam, low beam and daytime running lights. The extremely slim light units give the Flachbau RS an even more radical, motorsport-inspired appearance. The car is finished in Grand Prix White, a historic Porsche colour. Contrasting black elements and exposed carbon-fibre surfaces create a particularly striking appearance. On the bonnet, a U-shaped graphic element directly references the livery of the 935/78 “Moby Dick”.

Porsche 911 GT3 R rennsport: A rear wing at the heart of the aerodynamics
This is where the connection with the Porsche 911 GT3 R rennsport becomes particularly clear. The Flachbau RS's new rear wing is inspired by the wing of the 911 GT3 R rennsport Type 992, featuring distinctive S-shaped supports. On this one-off car, however, the wing is positioned approximately five centimetres higher. The rear wing is far more than a styling element. It can be manually fixed in three different positions, allowing the aerodynamic downforce to be adapted to the requirements of the racetrack. In the “High Downforce” and “Low Downforce” configurations, rear-axle downforce increases by 2 and 3 per cent respectively compared with a 911 GT2 RS equipped with the Manthey Kit and with the wing in the corresponding positions. At 340 km/h, in the “High Downforce” setting, the Flachbau RS generates exactly 554 kilograms of downforce on the rear axle. This figure clearly illustrates the level of aerodynamic development achieved by this unique project. The rest of the aerodynamic package has also been developed with performance firmly in mind. The front splitter, the Manthey Kit underbody structure and the rear diffuser work together to optimise aerodynamic efficiency. Carbon-fibre aerodiscs on the rear wheels also contribute to reducing drag.

Porsche 911 GT2 RS Flachbau: Performance, lightweight engineering and Nürburgring testing
Porsche also took an uncompromising approach to weight reduction. Despite the 911 GT2 RS with Weissach Package already being extensively optimised in this area, the one-off car has been made a further 31.6 kilograms lighter. The interior has undergone extensive modifications as well. The Porsche Communication Management system and the entire audio system have been removed. Much of the sound insulation, floor coverings and other comfort-related components have also been eliminated to reduce weight further. Behind the seats, the cabin now feels more like a racing car than a conventional road-going sports car. The carbon-fibre bucket seats feature “Flachbau RS” lettering on the headrests, while the stylised outline of the Nürburgring-Nordschleife can be seen behind them. On the passenger side, a gold-coloured Sonderwunsch badge highlights the exclusivity of the project with the inscription “Factory One-Off 2026 | Flachbau RS”. Before final approval, the one-off car underwent an extensive development and testing programme. Porsche carried out digital simulations, aerodynamic calculations and structural testing. Three test vehicles were built in total. The validation programme included wind-tunnel testing, road testing and 50 laps of the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. Durability testing of the rear wing also simulated a load equivalent to approximately 150,000 kilometres of customer use. The philosophy behind this extraordinary project brings together several key elements of Porsche's heritage: the legacy of the legendary 935 “Moby Dick”, the exclusivity of the Sonderwunsch programme, the expertise of Manthey, and the racing DNA of the 911 GT3 R rennsport. The Porsche 911 GT2 RS Flachbau RS is therefore much more than a simple visual modification. It represents a bridge between an extremely high-performance road-going sports car and the world of motorsport, where aerodynamics, lightweight engineering and precision play a fundamental role.
