Ferrari 12Cilindri Tailor Made: When Italian V12 Heritage Meets Korean Contemporary Art

A flagship Ferrari as a cultural canvas

Ferrari’s Tailor Made programme has always existed at the intersection of engineering excellence and personal expression. With the unveiling of the Ferrari 12Cilindri Tailor Made for the South Korean market, the Maranello marque elevates that philosophy into an entirely new dimension, one where a flagship V12 grand tourer becomes a moving cultural artefact. This unique commission represents the pinnacle of Ferrari’s personalisation capabilities, transforming the 12Cilindri into a work of road-going art. Inspired by tradition yet unmistakably driven by innovation, the project transcends conventional automotive customisation. Instead, it becomes a dialogue between continents, disciplines and generations, blending Ferrari’s historic mastery with contemporary Korean creativity. Developed over nearly two years, the Tailor Made 12Cilindri is the product of a rare multidisciplinary collaboration spanning Asia, Europe and North America. Ferrari’s Styling Centre in Maranello worked in concert with COOL HUNTING®, the globally respected cultural platform, alongside four young South Korean artists whose work represents the pulse of modern Korean craftsmanship and artistic thought. The result is not a themed special edition, but a singular expression of identity, culture and design intent.

A new language of colour and light

The most immediate signature of this one-off Ferrari is its striking exterior finish: Yoonseul, a newly developed transitional paint created exclusively for this project. Rooted in Korean cultural heritage, the colour draws inspiration from the shimmering reflections of sunlight on water, a phenomenon captured in the Korean word “Yoonseul.” This complex finish fuses references to traditional Celadon ceramics, known for their layered green hues, with the electric energy of modern Seoul, its neon-lit streets, electronic music culture and future-facing architecture. The result is a vivid, iridescent surface that shifts fluidly from green to violet, accented by subtle blue highlights as the car moves through light. It is a finish that feels alive, constantly changing, and entirely contemporary. Sound and motion further inform the exterior through the work of GRAYCODE and jiiiiin, a South Korean duo renowned for translating sound into spatial and visual forms. For this project, the artists transformed the acoustic signature of Ferrari’s naturally aspirated V12 into a graphic composition applied directly to the bodywork. Executed in a darker tone of the same transitional paint, this livery adds depth without overpowering the form, marking the first time Ferrari has visualised engine sound as part of its exterior design language.

Material innovation through artistic interpretation

Inside, the 12Cilindri Tailor Made becomes a gallery of material experimentation and craftsmanship. Central to this transformation is the work of Dahye Jeong, internationally acclaimed for her reinterpretation of traditional horsehair weaving. Her delicate, almost weightless textile structures explore transparency, shadow and light, qualities rarely associated with automotive interiors. Jeong’s influence appears throughout the cabin. A newly developed three-dimensional fabric, created in South Korea and used in a Ferrari for the first time, covers seats, floors and soft-touch surfaces with one of her signature woven patterns. The glass roof features a screen-printed version of the same motif, allowing light to cast shifting shadows across the interior as the car moves. Most striking of all is a hand-woven horsehair artwork, crafted from Mongolian horsehair sourced through certified suppliers, integrated directly into the dashboard. It is not decoration, but a true art installation, an unprecedented fusion of fine art and automotive design made possible through close collaboration between Ferrari’s Styling Centre, R&D team and the artist herself. Hyunhee Kim contributes a contrasting material narrative through translucent elements inspired by her reinterpretation of traditional Korean wedding trousseau. Her ethereal acrylic forms appear in the Scuderia Ferrari shields, wheel centre caps, the long “Ferrari” nameplate and the Prancing Horse, marking the first time such a level of translucent exterior customisation has been applied to a Tailor Made Ferrari. Inside, her influence continues with a translucent centre tunnel and a handcrafted dedication plate bearing the project’s name in traditional calligraphy.

White accents, V12 power and the future of tailor made

The interior and exterior composition is further unified through the artistic vision of TaeHyun Lee, whose contemporary lacquer work reimagines traditional Korean techniques through modern materials. His exploration of depth, layering and reflective surfaces inspired a series of white accents that serve as a visual leitmotif throughout the car. Most notably, the 12Cilindri features white brake callipers, an absolute first for a factory Ferrari, alongside white shift paddles finished using highly complex lacquer techniques. These details subtly disrupt Ferrari tradition while remaining deeply respectful of its aesthetic discipline. Beneath this cultural and artistic expression lies the beating heart of Ferrari heritage: a naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 producing 830 cv and revving to 9,500 rpm. With a top speed beyond 340 km/h and 0–100 km/h in around three seconds, the 12Cilindri remains a pure expression of front-engined V12 performance, enhanced by active aerodynamics, a reverse-opening bonnet and timeless GT proportions inspired by Ferrari icons of the 1950s and 1960s. In this Tailor Made interpretation, Ferrari demonstrates that the future of personalisation is not merely about colour and trim, but about storytelling, cultural exchange and artistic ambition. The Ferrari 12Cilindri Tailor Made stands as a rolling manifesto: a V12 masterpiece where Italian engineering excellence becomes the canvas for a new global creative language.
